Envirothon
The Envirothon competition involves high school students around NSW, with regional finalists competing for the title of State Envirothon Champions. It was established by the Department of Education & Training’s Environmental Education Centres and is sponsored by Ricoh, the NSW Department of Education & Training and the NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change.
The Envirothon is open to Year 11 students studying Biology, Geography and Earth and Environmental Science. The competition is seen to be the ultimate test of environmental skills and awareness for the 240 students who compete annually.
The 3-day final is held at Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, where the teams of students put their fieldwork skills into action to discern the future threats to the biodiversity and cultural heritage of Bobbin Head. Students present their findings to a panel of judges and the winning team are each awarded with a Ricoh digital camera, and the school receives a recycled park bench as a permanent record of their success.
Ricoh’s ongoing sponsorship of the Envirothon demonstrates our commitment to educating and empowering the adults of tomorrow.
