The Customer: Materials in the Raw

Since 1906, The Collins Group has been trading successfully as one of Australia’s most successful building industry companies and parent to Collins Construction Materials, M. Collins and Sons Contractors, Collins Sports Turf, and Materials in the Raw. It is a business on a continual growth path, and with that growth there is the need to streamline operations while maximising efficiencies. For that reason, The Collins Group partnered with Ricoh for the design and implementation of a centrally managed document generation and print solution.

The challenge: Template management

Prior to the partnership with Ricoh, the various businesses within The Collins Group had made use of a print environment that required high-spec print devices at each location. These were required due to the fact that templates were stored on individual machines rather than a central location. The main problem with this is that every time a template for a cash sale receipt, invoice or delivery docket was changed, it had to be updated to printers across the network.  Adding to that was the Group’s decision to move away from hard copy invoice printing. According to Finance and Administration Manager, Robert Moller, emailing invoices would save time and money.

The solution: A new generation

It was in 2012 that The Collins Group partnered with Ricoh on an entirely new system of document generation and printing – a system that is set to pay for itself even before the contract between the two companies is half-way through. Consisting of two Ricoh 45 page per minute (ppm) multifunction devices (MFDs) and five 25 ppm MFDs, the system is based on Ricoh-supported PlanetPress Suite document production, distribution and archiving software.

With Collins Group consisting of four separate business entities, Ricoh software consultants devised a single solution to address the needs of all four businesses. This was achieved by drawing on Ricoh’s in-house expertise in variable data printing (VDP) and form design.
